ECLIPSE LINKS
Links to other photos & videos about the eclipse

Note: This is far from complete; with so many pages about the eclipse, I concentrated on pages from Libya, especially those about our eclipse site. However, if you know other links -- or collections of links -- that should be here, please email me.

Update: July, 2006: links to "Mr. Eclipse"'s photos from Jalu, and some notes on the next Total Solar Eclipse, Aug. 1, 2008

From our group

On this website
More of my photos of the trip are posted in a gallery on this website. As well, there are several photo albums of pictures taken by others travelling in our group here.

David Makepeace
A Toronto filmmaker, this was his 9th total solar eclipse. His website, www.eclipseguy.com includes a trip report, and 3 short films (the eclipse, the Sahara week and Tripoli and the Roman ruins).
He also has clips and photos available of numerous other eclipses, as well as eclipse links.

The May 6, 2006 Canadian newspaper, The National Post carried an article about him and the Libyan trip.

Others:

John O'Brien: two of his videos are available on Google video:

Cherrill Spencer: photos of Libya and the eclipse site here.

Sai Vallabha has 8 pages of photos from Libya (and a week in Egypt) here.

Some other eclipse photos and reports:

Fred Espenak: "Mr. Eclipse"
The foremost eclipse expert, he was also at our Jalu site travelling with another group. He recently (early July) posted many of his eclipse photos on 5 pages (below). Each page also has links to others' photos.

His site contains as much eclipse information as you'd want.

Eclipse Photos:
Overview
Diamond Ring
Inner Corona Composites
Outer Corona Composites
Sequences

Miloslav Druckmuller
One of the world's greatest authorities on eclipses. His website is here, and so far one photo from Libya: a composite of 51 images, a composite being the only way to attempt to capture a little of what the naked eye sees.

Others:

PBS Frontline/World report on Libya and the eclipse.
The American public broadcasting network show has a 13 minute piece entitled "Libya: Out of the Shadow". The website, along with background info and links and the video (Real Player or Quick Time) is available here.

The same journalist (Marco Werman) who produced the above video report also wrote a lengthier journal of his trip and time in Jalu. Read it here.

NASA's Astronomy Photo of the Day site has several nice images

A journal of some eclipse chasers who raced from the Mediterranean to Jalu on eclipse day

Report from one of the other Libyan eclipse sites, near Tobruk

Another eclipse veteran's report from Egypt

2008: The next Total Solar Eclipse

The next total eclipse will occur on Aug. 1, 2008. It will begin in the Canadian Arctic archipelago, cross Greenland into Siberia, Mongolia and China. (Eclipse travel is usually exciting; not often convenient). Weather prospects along the path aren't great. But here are a few links to whet your appetite:

NASA's data on the 2008 TSE.

Jay Anderson may be the top eclipse weather reference. Here is his 2008 data.

Travel Quest International (with Sky & Telescope magazine) has various eclipse tours planned: one covering the "Great Cities of Russia"' another that will take you to the North Pole on a Russian nuclear icebreaker. (Start saving now!) They also have Chinese tours.

Xavier Jubier, who runs Eclipse City has this preliminary site covering Mongolia, China & Russia

More links to come...
